Colts’ Wayne Out For Season With Knee Injury

Indianapolis (AFP) – The Indianapolis Colts will be without Reggie Wayne for the rest of the NFL season after the wide receiver tore a knee ligament in Sunday’s win over Denver.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano confirmed at a new conference on Monday that Wayne had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and would require surgery.

“He’ll have to get that thing fixed,” Pagano said.

Wayne was hurt on a non-contact play while trying to catch a low pass from Andrew Luck in the fourth quarter of the Colts’ 39-33 win over the Broncos. The game marked Denver quarterback Peyton Manning’s first return to Indianapolis to face the team he led for 14 seasons.

Wayne, a 34-year-old veteran, was leading the Colts with 38 receptions and 503 yards in seven games. His streak of 189 consecutive games, longest among active players, will come to an end.

Wayne is in his 13th NFL season, all with the Colts. Pagano was confident he’ll be back with the team eventually.

“He’ll get his surgery, he’ll rehab, he’ll grind,” Pagano said. “He’ll do whatever it takes to get back on that field. He’s not going out like this,” he said.
